THERAPY PREPARATION CLASS - This class is available to graduates of the Off-Leash Program or the Intermediate Class. Although the Canine Good Citizen Certification is not a requirement of a Registered Therapy Dog, we suggest you first achieve the CGC prior to the Therapy Preparation Class.

The Therapy Preparation class will guide you and your canine companion through the necessary steps to become a Registered Therapy Team.     Therapy Teams have an opportunity to give back to their community in a variety of settings.  Therapy Dogs are welcome in Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Schools and a variety of other facilities.

The first meeting will be in a Canine Academy Training Center where we will educate you on the requirements of a Therapy Dog, by introducing your dog to wheel chairs, walkers and other distractions they will encounter. We will also supply you with the necessary information needed to register the dog for testing upon completion of the class.

The next two meetings will be in actual Assisted Living Facilities. Your trainer will guide you and your dog as you introduce them to the residents and staff.

The final meeting will be held back at the Canine Academy Training Center where you will practice the actual test that will be required prior to registration. We will also test your dog for the Canine Good Citizen "CGC" or the more advanced Community Canine Good Citizen "CCGC".

Lastly, we will coordinate your official testing date with Therapy Dog International "TDI".  The testing will be administered by a TDI Tester in Canine Academy's Training Center.

Graduates of this class that successfully obtain their CCGC will now be eligible to use our exclusive Board and Train services.

PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of either the intermediate obedience course or the off-leash program.

What you'll learn:

In this class you will lean how to teach your dog the basics of agility:

  • "Jump" - traversing over obstacles
  • "Climb it" - climbing over the A-frame
  • "Walk it" - walking over crosswalk
  • "Teeter" - walking over the teeter-totter
  • "Table" - jumping up on a platform
  • "Weave" - weaving between poles

This class is designed to offer both dog and owner exercise and fun in a safe setting.   Agility is a great way to build a dog's confidence and improve obedience skills through positive reinforcement.

BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY: We encourage anyone who is going to be living with the dog to attend class. Children are welcome.
