Sedona

Sedona1.jpg

Starting at about five months of age, Sedona went through the Beginner and Intermediate classes, and has just finished the Off Leash Program. What a difference these classes have made in our lives and in Sedona's! She's a very friendly dog, well-socialized to other dogs and humans by her breeder, and she would drag us to greet every human and dog she met. But sometimes, a simple walk around the block was a battle. She did not know what we expected of her, and we did not know how to get her to listen. And now this 63 lb. Lab is joy to walk and to take to the park to play with other dogs and the kids in the neighborhood. She's become a confident dog, learning her limits (and ours!) and how to have fun safely. Sedona's not done learning, and neither are we, but we are all on our way. And we are looking forward to many happy years with each other.

Thank you, Canine Academy, for giving Sedona the opportunity to fulfill her potential to become a great dog. Lisa and her staff treated Sedona as one of their own, and she loved going to school. (She's looking forward to the Great Dog Outings, as are we.) While the cost of these programs is not negligible, they are. in our view, well worth the cost. The joy of having a well-behaved, confident, and happy dog as part of our family is priceless.

Wilson

Happy owner … Happy dog!

We brought Wilson, a Yellow Labrador, into our home on July 25, 2016 at eight weeks old.  We watched him grow from the moment he was born.  We loved him … unconditionally.  Wilson has always been a charmer.  Good looks, great personality, ready to please, curious, tons of energy.

The challenges we were having with Wilson involved him barking for attention, putting his mouth on us (not nipping at us), pulling on the leash during walks, jumping on our senior golden Lab, jumping on us when we entered the house, chasing squirrels and birds, jumping on counters.  So here we are with a wonderful puppy with so much potential!  We tried and tried, but we couldn’t get through.  We weren’t sure what to do, and he wasn’t sure what he should be doing.  We wanted a well-behaved dog and most importantly, we wanted him to be safe.

We reached out to Canine Academy on a weekend.  That same day we received a returned email letting us know when the next available opening was.

Wilson has gone through the Canine Academy Beginner through Advanced training session, achieving his Canine Good Citizen and Community Canine Certificates.  We weren’t sure he would pass.  During one test during a “heel” command he picked up an orange cone mid-stride!  I thought I was going to die (I had to admit this was funny, but not when your testing!)  I though Lisa would tell us he had work to do.  Instead, she said, “Wilson gets extra points for that!”  At this point Wilson has overcome most of our concerns and he acts appropriately in public settings, but distractions such passing another dog, birds and squirrels were still a struggle.  Here’s me:  “Oh no there is a bird”, and Wilson: “Watch me, I’m going to run as fast as I can to get that bird!”  Wilson’s really a great dog, it’s just the distractions!  But you take a dog for a walk and you’re going to get distractions!

We decided to enroll Wilson in the Off-Leash training program to overcome these distractions.  Six weeks of solid, hands-on training with experienced trainers and staff.  Lisa and her awesome trainers worked each day with Wilson to teach him the skills he needed to be overcome those distractions.  They taught him to listen to his 15 commands, the first time.  What I am most impressed with is they made the learning fun.  Wilson worked hard for six weeks to learn everything he needed to be successful at the training.  We were not going to let him down.  We faithfully watched the videos.  We anxiously awaited for Wilson’s return.

Through Wilson’s training at Canine Academy, Wilson is now confident; he knows what is expected of him; he listens to what we say, when we say it, the first time!  Canine Academy guided us through every step of the way.  They continue to guide and support us through day visits and weekly outings.  Canine Academy wants Wilson to be just as successful as we want him to be.  Wilson knows the commands better than we do!  He knows when we mess up, but he forgives us!  Good thing Canine Academy has several outings a month that we can attend to practice our skills!  Canine Academy is there every step of the way if we have questions or notice we are struggling with something.

Food falls on the floor, distractions come upon us, everyday situations.  We know the commands to help Wilson overcome all of these things.  We now know what to do to help him be successful.

The kids came home to visit and said, “Wilson’s different”.  I said yes, he is.  He now knows what not to do.  He knows not to jump on you when you come in the door.  He knows not to jump on the counter.   But he is still the same, loveable, quirky dog he was when we first invited him into our home!  He still loves to play, he still loves to cuddle, he still loves to be with us wherever we are.

Remember the birds?  This is me now, “Hmm, there’s a bird.”  Wilson: “Stupid bird!” Remember the orange cone?  Yep, he still wants it, but will he try to get it?  Nope! That dog on our walk he wants to meet.  Will he pull to go meet it?  Nope!

Through Lisa’s good humor, love and passion for dogs, hard work, and team (this is not possible without her awesome team), we are pleased to say that Wilson is an obedient, well-mannered and awesome canine companion!

In closing, we thank Lisa and all of the trainers and behind the scene staff at Canine Academy for your encouragement, support and guidance and most of all, love you have shown to not only Wilson, but all of the dogs that go through your wonderful program!  The training you have provided our family is invaluable.  We could not have achieved these results without you!

Canine Academy is, well … Priceless!

Love Wilson and his Parents!

Parker

 Dear Lisa and Staff

We want to thank you for taking such good care of our Parker (Black lab}.  When you get a dog (any pet) you are taking the responsibility to love, feed and provide a well-protected balanced life.  You feel that it is your job.  What we were not prepared for was to find a team of loving, highly trained individuals, who would help us, and have the same feelings.

Lisa you and your team cared protected and loved our Parker beyond any expectations.  You’re way with our Parker (and all the dogs), and most important, their way with you was heartwarming to us as his owners.   We felt that our little guy was in great hands, and in a safe, clean environment that showed how much everyone cared and how hard everyone worked for his well being.   Your accomplishment with his behavior, without him losing his individual personality, is making our life with him so much more pleasant and meaningful.  He has learned that knowing what is safe and unsafe will make his life a whole lot happier as well. Parker looks for our guidance that you have taught him to expect (and taught us as well) and allows us to have a GREAT DOG.

We can't thank you enough for taking that extra step and making Parker good for Don, teaching to heal and walk at his pace, was the most considerate, caring thing that you did for Don.

In the beginning the hardest part was the separation anxiety, we more than he!!  You helped us work thru that with pictures and answering my over the top anxiety questions.  Thank you for listening and understanding.  It was tough.!!.... But when the day came that we got our Gentleman back...his personality the same...his understanding of how to behave and be a Great Dog just blew us away. Yes I admit I cried...what else was I to do!!  You have such a compassionate, loving relationship with your dogs and it shows in their behavior.  We honestly don't know how to thank you for saving our little guy (he swallowed 2 socks) and giving him the tools to be a Great Dog and safe...

What is so very important to me now, is that you are there to help guide and train the PARENTS with every step of the way.   My questions and my little hiccups in working with Parker that I have had, you have been there to train ME thru them!!  You are training us to be Great Dog Owners and we are so grateful.

Lisa, and staff.... We thank you for making our life so wonderful with Parker and Thank You for being part of our life...It is a honor to know such passionate, compassionate people who love what they do!!  So glad we made the first phone call to you and you spoke with me and told me what you could do for Parker and us!!  You changed our life and we THANK YOU!!!

"Dublin"

dublin.jpg

When we brought home Dublin in January of 2011, he was a 16 week old puppy.  He was full of energy and loved to get into mischief.  The breeder had let him sit on all the furniture.  Dublin was like Superman, and he could leap over coaches and chairs, it did not matter if people were in them when he pounced!  From the time we brought him home in January 2010 until he went into the program in August of 2011 we did not sit in our family room.  Dublin also loved to chew.  In fact, he ate the family room coach.   Another of Dublin’s tricks was to wait until people had their backs turned and take a running leap at the people with all four legs.  He loved to eat shoes, mittens, hats, gloves and socks.  We spent one happy occasion at the Vet after he ate a sock out of the dirty clothes and we had to give him medicine to throw it up.  Walking with Dublin was a game of tug of war and he usually won! He did go to obedience school and had several private training sessions but it did not seem to work.  We realized we needed help when our in laws, who had always watched our other dog, said Dublin was just too much for them.  We were going on a long vacation and did not have an option for Dublin.  Enter the Canine Academy.  I called Lisa and arranged a meeting.  My husband, Dublin, and I went to the meeting.  We were impressed!  After a family meeting we decided to send Dublin to camp.  The motto of the Canine Academy is Have a good dog….Want a great dog?™  Obviously we did not have a good dog, so I expected him to be better but certainly not great. Boy, was I wrong, Dublin is truly an amazing dog now! We missed him while he was away and my children thought that he would be a robot and lose all of his personality.  The change is amazing.  Dublin has kept his personality but he now has the tools to behave.  I would recommend this program to everyone!  The whole family loves going to the off leash classes and showing off our dog!!!!

"Morgan"

Jill & Marty Jamerino - "Morgan" - Chocolate Lab

Morgan was a very “excited-hyper” dog.  We had to always put Morgan in another room when company arrived to avoid all the jumping & licking.  Then we had to hear [image 03] all the barking & scratching from the other room.  We were Morgan’s chew toys, and our clothing showed it!  Nieces & nephews never stood a chance with Morgan.  She would knock them down in excitement and leave them afraid of her.  We were never in control on our walks.  She would literally pull us for the entire walk.
In 2002, with a baby on the way, we realized we had to either get control of Morgan, or give her up.  As she is a part of our family… off to Canine Academy she went!
After the training, Morgan is a different dog.  Different in a good way…She no longer jumps on people, she walks at our side with or without a leash, she simply “hangs out” with us in the front yard, and best of all, she is a well behaved & gentle dog with our 10 month old baby boy!  We get compliments everywhere we take her on what a well-mannered dog she is.
We highly recommend the Canine Academy Off-Leash Program.

"Sadie"

The Leavitt Family - Sadie - Lab Mix
My name is Sadie Marie Leavitt.  I was born on April 28, 2001.  I was put with a litter of pups to which I didn’t belong.  I am a black lab mixed with what I don’t know.   I was adopted the moment my family saw me.  As I grew older, I became meaner, nastier, and very possessive of my family members.  We went to obedience classes and “doggy day care”, but that didn’t help.  My master was told to put me to sleep.
Then we heard about Canine Academy.  I was enrolled the next day.  After six weeks, my master came to pick me up.  She couldn’t believe I was the same pup.  Since then, I have been happily residing with my family.  I now enjoy other people and dogs, and I am having a great life.  I am able to walk without a leash, stay in my yard with being confined, and I go everywhere my family goes!  If I can’t go on vacation with my family, I stay with my friends at Canine Academy.  If it weren’t for Canine Academy, I wouldn’t be here today to tell you my story.
Thank you Canine Academy for saving my life.  Love, Sadie Marie

"Hannah Banana"

The Townsend Family - "Hannah Banana" – Black Lab

Hannah was totally unmanageable prior to the training she received from Canine Academy.  It was impossible to enjoy her in the house; she stole food, ran around the house like a maniac, gave our twin two year old boys serious beatings, (we used to joke that we should send them out to play with her wearing their bike helmets).  Although she had a tender disposition, her play was very rough.  We knew something had to be done to make her a good family pet.

We researched many trainers and training techniques before we decided to go with Canine Academy.  Although we were reluctant to be parted from her for six weeks, we knew it was best for her and the family.
After training, the transformation was remarkable.  She obeyed all her commands immediately, no longer stole food, and had become a family protector.

I am sad to say we lost our beloved doggy daughter to a genetic condition.  We will miss our girl forever, but are thankful our family was able to love her and enjoy her.

We thank you, Canine Academy, for providing the training Hannah required becoming the wonderful dog she was.

"Maggie"

WOW! Maggie is amazing. Thank you so much for your investment into her training. Just wanted to let you to know that she was thrilled to be home last night. We saw absolutely no anxiety (that we have seen so far) whatsoever. We have a very happy, content, and obedient doggie.

We were able to apply four or five corrections before bedtime, one of which was "quiet" when she started to whine in her crate. After that, she slept all night without a peep. Another was when she pulled on her leash after a squirrel this morning.
She stayed in her place while I got dressed and ready for the day. She is also happy to "find" all her old toys and chew. As far as interest in breakfast, no problem! She is a lab! :)

We have our safety list and will be working through it this week.
I can't tell you what a difference you have made to us and to her already! To the staff, thanks for your encouragement and sweet but firm spirit. We know we have a lot to learn yet, but we can see that Maggie is fully prepared to help us out.
